Manu National Park - Cultural Zone
This tour adventure is not to long, no to short, this four day tour is ideal for people looking for a relaxed or shorter visit to the peaceful and wildlife rich area of Manu, year round.
Program Itinerary
Day 1: CUSCO – AMAZON PONA LODGE
Our adventure into the Jungle of Manu start with picking you up around 5:30 AM, from your Hotels in Cusco, using the service of our private Manu Wildlife Tours transport. The first part of our excursion is will take us through the majestic Andean mountains and andean villages. Before mit-day we arrive at the entrance of Manu National Park, the access point to one of the most protected natural areas in South America. From here we will continue into the Cloud Forest and at Fog forest we will explore for around 3 hours to observe the National bird of Peru, the cock of the rock, the second biggest monkey in Peru (woolly monkeys) and to appreciate different types of bromeliads and beautiful orchids, and in a lucky day we might encounter the Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus) and many others exotic birds like Blue-banded Tucanet, Golden-headed Quetzal and Crested Quetzal, then We arrive to our selected Amazon Pona Lodge. In the evening, we'll walk into the jungle, (night expedition) to see tarantulas, different types of spiders, poisonous frogs, tree frogs, snakes, night monkeys, Giant armadillos and boas. (B, L)
Day 2: AMAZON PONA LODGE – SOGA DE ORO LODGE
We will wake up early in the morning with the singing of the Amazonian birds and after breakfast have the chance to walk along the high forest visiting the local agricultures like coca plants, bananas, pineapples, etc.
We will also stop at a view point where you can get a good overview of the jungle and river. From the port of Atalaya we leave by motorized boat (well equiped with life jackets) to our next lodge. A long the boat trip we will see different kind of birds such as vultures, kingfisher and always the presence of troops of herons and cormorants.
After a good lunch We will explore the tropical lowland rainforest by different trails and enjoy the amazing sounds of birds like woodpeckers, Toucans, Parrots, Macaws and we will appreciate giant trees typical of the jungle. (is included night expeditions) to see tarantulas, different types of spiders, poisonous frogs, tree frogs, snakes, alligators, night monkeys, armadillos and boas.
We will spend the night in our rustic at Soga de Oro Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 3: SOGA DE ORO LODGE (swimming, sport fishing, visiting lake and exploration day)
After early breakfast we will explore the jungle for several hours and see different tipys of wildlife , as squirrels monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys and howler monkeys, birds such as eagle, Macaws,woodpeckers, toucans, flycatcher, and kingfisher etc. Many different kinds of plants and medecin plants. In the afternoon we will visit Machuwasi Lake where we will take a balsa raft and see the pre-historic Hoatzin bird and Capy baras, watch the beautiful sunset and after dark we will look for the Caimans. We will spend the night in our rustic at Soga de Oro Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 4: SOGA DE ORO LODGE - CUSCO
We start early and take our motor boat to the small colpa (wall of clay lick) is located in the river bank, where hundred noisy species of parakeets, parrots and small macaws come to feed on mineral soil and salt supplement that they find in this clay. After breakfast We pack all our things and return to Atalaya where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.
We return to Cusco via the cloud forest and Paucartambo. We will arrive back in Cusco in the late afternoon. (B, L)
